Why Do We Chase Waterfalls - In Awe of Their Power

We chase waterfalls for many reasons.  We can list some of them, but I'm not sure if mere words can capture the raw emotions we feel about it.  But, we'll try to explain anyway.  This post will be one of many on the topic.

Waterfalls are a force to be reckoned with.  I mean, there is a raw power exhibited in them, especially the larger or free plunging ones.  They create their own environment for crying out loud.  The mist from them soaks everything in their immediate vicinity.  The gusty winds from them are so powerful!  In fact, on our honeymoon trip, I almost lost my hat at Lower Yellowstone Falls because the wind gusts were so formidable.

The power of waterfalls reminds me of the power of God, but only in a limited sense.  I think it's amazing how God created this Earth to showcase the Glory of His divine attributes.  To think that if God can create something with that much raw power, what more can He do?  The answer is simple...anything...everything.

Chase Waterfalls - Showcasing God's Power

As we chase waterfalls, we are reminded of God's power...and the Bible tells us that God created everything by Jesus Christ and He did it by simply speaking it into existence.  That's true power right there!

Check it out...

Genesis 1:1 says that "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth."  You can read more details on that by reading the first two chapters of the book of Genesis in the Bible.  It even spells out how that He spoke everything into existence in a step by step manner and the order of some of it might just blow your mind, as it should, because He is God so...

🤷

Then the Bible tells us that God created everything through Jesus Christ, because as you may or may not know, Jesus was not just a "good teacher".  He is the express image of the Living God that came in the flesh to live, minister, and work miracles among humanity and then die as a sacrifice for our sins and rise from the dead to prove who He was.

Check out these scriptures...

John 1:1-3 explains, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and Word was God.  He was in the beginning with God.  All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made." (ESV)

And the subsequent verses clarify who this Word is, especially verse 14 as it says, "And the word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only son from the Father, full of grace and truth." (ESV)

There are many other passages in the Bible that tell us this, but one of my favorites is Colossians 1:15-17 as it spells out so clearly that "Christ is the visible image of the invisible God.  He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through Him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth.  He made the things we can see and the things we can't see - such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world.  Everything was created through him and for him.  He existed before everything else, and he holds all creation together." (NLT)  That includes waterfalls, of course!

So...One of the many reasons we love to chase waterfalls is that their raw power remind us that God created them and us and all of creation by the word of his power through Jesus Christ who holds it all together and graciously displays it to us to remind us that it is He who is greatest and worthy of all our praise and worship.

What about you?  Have you ever thought about waterfalls, their power, and where it comes from?

I hope we've provoked your thoughts a little today.  Before you go though...
